Agenda

Suggested agenda for
meetings of the ODLG Jobs Group
- Informal
Introductions, Getting Settled (15 minutes)
It is suggested that group assembles in a circle or
around a table to facilitate discussion and sharing.
- Designate Meeting Facilitator (2 minutes)
One attendee volunteers to facilitate. See
"Job Description" below for Jobs Group
meeting facilitator.
- Structured Introductions (15-30 minutes)
Taking turns, each attendee introduces
him/herself and gives a 2-3 minute description of
job/career situation. We have found that this does
not need to be a long history, as some members with
dissimilar interests may become disengaged during
this part of the meeting, especially if the group is
large.
- Brainstorming/Discussion of Goals for the Meeting
(30 minutes)
Individuals can articulate what they would like
to accomplish or get help with in this meeting. All
attendees may not have specific goals; that is OK.
All will benefit from hearing ideas of others, and
all will be able to contribute suggestions and
advice.
This is a sort of brainstorming process. Usually
in this part of the meeting, idea exchange starts.
Try not to spend excessive time on any one
individual’s need at this point; try to get some
agreement on general themes for the meeting.
- Break/Networking (15 minutes)
This is a great time for "bio" breaks
and for people to network with others with commons
needs and interests. Many business cards are
exchanged when people have this opportunity.
- Working through Goals approx. (1 hour +)
Often this time is spent on more talking,
brainstorming, sharing ideas, etc. around the specific
issues that were identified earlier in the meeting.
This section may be replaced by a specific program
that has been pre-arranged. For example, in the past,
we have done resume workshopping in small groups, had
a panel discussion of people who have successfully
transitioned into OD, practiced interviewing and
"elevator speeches," etc.
